Mrs. Bettie Lou Buchanan Ferguson

Mrs. Bettie Lou Buchanan Ferguson, age 89, peacefully transitioned from her life*s journey on Sunday, February 20, 2022. Funeral service will be 1 PM Saturday, February 26, 2022, at Shelbyville First Church of the Nazarene 834 Union St Shelbyville, TN. Reverend Corey Davis will officiate, and Reverend Mitchell Buchanan will be eulogist. Burial will follow in Willow Mount Cemetery. The family will receive visitors 11 AM until service time Saturday at the church. Bettie Lou Ferguson Was born February 1, 1933, in Shelbyville, Tennessee. She was the daughter of the late Rosa Lee Anderson Buchanan and Willie Lee Buchanan. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her loving husband Lucius Maurice Ferguson, her son Earl James Draine, three brothers: Andrew Buchanan, Robert T. Sims and George W. Buchanan, six sisters: Mary E. Sims, Irene Boyd, Jennie Mae McCory, Rosie Lee Marks, Ollie Claybrooks and Wilma C. Buchanan. Bettie attended Bedford County Training School. Bettie*s love of cooking inspired her to develop her culinary skills and she worked at Bedford County Hospital as a dietary aid, Central High School Cafeteria, American Can Cafeteria and Carriage House Inn Cafeteria. A notable event occurred when she was employed at the Shelbyville Inn Cafeteria and actor William Shatner of Star Trek, was a customer. He was so impressed with his dining experience that he asks to meet the *chef* and afterwards he offered to fly her to California to prepare his Thanksgiving dinner. She humbly declined because, for her, that time with her family was more valuable. She was blessed with four other children: Anderson (Valerie) Buchanan, David Leon Draine, Mary Washington Buchanan, Mamie Marie (Carlus) Love. Also called Bet, she had a great love for her grandchildren; they were very dear to her. She always welcomed them with open arms and an opened heart. Bettie also had a special bond with her siblings, nieces and nephews. She was a friend to many. She had a beautiful smile and never complained. She was a mother to everyone, and she opened her home to many. Bettie gave her life to Christ at an early age and united with Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist church where she was dedicated, devoted and faithful until she experienced serious health issues. She served as a Deaconess, served on the culinary committee and she was a member of the adult choir. She would also willingly assist where needed to serve at Mt. Zion. She especially had a love for Sunday school. Bettie leaves to cherish her legacy and memory: her children Anderson (Valerie) Buchanan, David Leon Draine, Mary Washington Buchanan, Mamie Marie (Carlus) Love, extended children; Tameka (Corey) Buckingham, Rita Minnifee and Faye (Linda) Campbell, her siblings; Emma Jean Lentz, Leanna (Paul) Fishback, Rose (Bobby) Peacock, Wilkie (Diana) Buchanan, Willie *Termite* Buchanan all of Shelbyville and Josephine (Frank) Frazier of Rockvale, Tennessee; fifteen grandchildren; twenty five great-grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren. Additionally, she leaves numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends that will miss her as well. Feldhaus Memorial Chapel is assisting the family.
