James Millard King

James Millard "Jim" King, a beacon of selfless love and passionate dedication to his family and community, passed away peacefully on January 7, 2024, at his home in Bell Buckle, Tennessee. Born in Veto, Alabama, on October 22, 1934, Jim's life was a testament to the values he held dear: faith, family, and hard work. Jim was the beloved husband of Myrna (Griffy) King, with whom he shared an enduring love story spanning 69 beautiful years. Together, they raised a family that includes their son, James Thomas King of Huntsville, Alabama; their daughter, Nancy King Foreman and her husband, Walter, of Lexington, Kentucky; and their youngest daughter, Melinda "Mindy" King of Franklin, Tennessee. Jim was a proud grandfather to his cherished granddaughter, Abigael Foreman. He was preceded in death by his parents, James A. King and Sarah Grooms King, who instilled in him the virtues of integrity and kindness. Jim's educational journey led him to Martin College, where he earned his degree and laid the foundation for a successful career. He became a world-class salesman and had the distinct honor of beinga salesman for Jack Palmer Food, a role from which he eventually retired. His work ethic and charisma made him not only a respected figure in his profession but also a mentor to many who were fortunate enough to work alongside him. A man of deep faith, Jim was a devoted member of the First United Methodist Church of Shelbyville. His commitment to his church community was a reflection of his belief that "Preach the Gospel at all times. When necessary, use words," a quote famously attributed to St. Francis of Assisi. Jim lived by these words, his actions always echoing the teachings of his faith. Jim's interests were as varied as they were passionate. An avid woodworker, he found joy in the art of crafting and creating, often sharing his masterpieces with loved ones. His melodious voice was a gift he gladly shared, singing with a fervor that could stir the soul. A voracious reader, Jim's thirst for knowledge and love for stories knew no bounds. Those who knew Jim would describe him as faith-filled, a testament to his unwavering belief in a higher purpose. He was selfless, always placing the needs of others before his own, and his passion for life was evident in everything he did. Jim's legacy is one of love, service, and an unshakable zest for life. Jim is survived by his loving family, who will continue to honor his memory by living out the values he championed. His wisdom, warmth, and unwavering support will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. A life so beautifully lived deserves to be beautifully remembered. Jim King was a man who knew the importance of leaving the world a little better than he found it, and he did so with grace and humility.
