Lonnie Dale Longshore

Lonnie Dale Longshore, affectionately known as Lonnie to his friends and loved ones, passed away peacefully on July 25, 2024, in Shelbyville, Tennessee, at the age of 68. Born on May 7, 1956, in Lewisburg, Tennessee, Lonnie was a man whose presence was characterized by his handy skills, loving nature, and kind heart. His life was a testament to the love he had for his family, his country, and the simple joys that come from working with one's hands. Lonnie proudly served in the United States Army, a time during which he not only served his country but also developed a sense of discipline and camaraderie that he carried throughout his life. After his military service, he found joy and purpose in woodworking, a skill that allowed him to create and share beautiful pieces with those around him. His love for animals was equally evident, with every pet and creature finding a gentle friend in him. He was a devoted family man, cherishing every moment spent with his beloved wife of 40 years, Donna Jean Longshore. Together, they built a life filled with love and laughter, welcoming their children Ginger "Tucy" Harrell (Shane), Carissa "Sissy" Malone (Bo), David Metcalf (Lacey), and Chris Metcalf (Stacy). Lonnie's legacy continues through his 19 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren, each of whom he adored and took great pride in. Lonnie was the cherished brother of Reva Gail Dollar, Lavon Dee Longshore, and Steven Perry Longshore. He also held a special place in the heart of his brother-in-law, John Crick, as well as his numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members. His familial bonds were a source of strength and joy throughout his life. Preceding him in death were his parents, J.D. Longshore and Edna (Sanders) Longshore, his sons JayDee Longshore and Jeff Smitty, and his sister Nanny Mae Speegle. They were undoubtedly there to welcome him with open arms as he crossed over into the next chapter of existence. To know Lonnie was to know the embodiment of the quote by Helen Keller: "The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched - they must be felt with the heart." Lonnie felt the world with his heart, and in doing so, he made it a more beautiful place for his family and everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. Lonnie's life was marked by the connections he made and the love he shared. Whether it was a project he crafted with care or a quiet moment spent with his grandchildren, he understood that the true value of life lies in the relationships we nurture and the love we give. As we say goodbye to Lonnie Dale Longshore, we celebrate a life well-lived, a life full of purpose, and a heart that was always ready to give. He has left an indelible mark on the hearts of those who loved him, and his memory will be treasured forever. Lonnie's legacy is one of kindness, devotion, and the gentle touch of a craftsman who understood the beauty of creation, both in wood and in the bonds of family.
