Mrs. Shirley Ann Owens

Shirley Ann Christmon Owens, age 76 of Shelbyville, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on September 27,2025 at AMG Specialty Hospital in Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina. Funeral services will be 1 PM Monday, October 6, 2025 at Feldhaus Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Monday from 12 Noon until service time at the funeral home. Born on August 30,1949 she was the youngest daughter to the late Charlie Lewis,Sr., and Annie Lou Christmon. Shirley was a Harris High School cheerleader and the girls’ basketball team member. In 1965 this basketball team was the Middle Tennessee Athletic Association (MTAA) Girl’s Basketball Team Champion. Because of desegregation in 1964 and the closing of Harris High School in 1966, Shirley graduated from Shelbyville Central High School in 1967. After finishing high school, she entered and received her Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) Certificate. While working as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) at Bedford County General Hospital, she continued her career in nursing by attending Middle Tennessee State University School of Nursing in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. She obtained her Registered Nurse (RN) degree. Shirley worked in the Operating and Emergency Rooms at Bedford County General Hospital and Tennova Healthcare, until her retirement. Shirley enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family. She was married to James Owens her devoted husband of 53 years and she was an active member at Woodfork Chapel AME Church in Shelbyville, TN. Shirley departure leaves a void, but we trust God will give us the strength to bear. As we mourn her loss, we also celebrate her life. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Robert “Korn” Christmon and Walter E. Christmon and sisters Clara A.Rodgers and Hattie Holman. She leaves behind her husband James Owens, one sister Dorothy Ruth Wright of Strafford, Virginia and one brother Charlie “Peanut” Christmon Jr., of Shelbyville, TN. One sister-in-law Ruth Owens of Flat Creek, Tn. And one Aunt Mary Williams of Shelbyville, Tn. Several nephews, nieces, cousins.as well as a host of extended family and many dear friends. Rest in peace, dear wife, Sister, Aunt, you will be forever missed, but your light will never fade. .
