May 12, 1933 - November 23, 2020
Reverend Clarence W. McGee, age 87, of Shelbyville, passed away November 23, 2020. Graveside services will be 11:30 AM Sunday, November 29, 2020, at Willow Mount Cemetery. There will be no visitation. In his early years in ministry, Elder McGee served as Pastor of Galilee Primitive Baptist Church in Shelbyville and Mt. Olive Primitive Baptist Church in Winchester. The dual pastoral responsibilities eventually ended when Elder McGee accepted the full-time leadership of Mt. Olive. He led the congregation as Pastor and Shephard for 46-years, from 1968-2014. Under this leadership, Mt. Olive flourished in membership and stewardship. Pastor McGee’s vision was to equip the Saints to be disciples of Christ, fishers of men, and leaders in-and-outside of the church. He implemented a Youth Board to include Youth Ushers and Choir, Scholarship Program to support students in college, community ministry and outreach programs, including women’s and men’s church league softball teams, van ministry, 6:00 p.m. worship service, and a long-standing Christmas Season Candlelight Service, among other initiatives. Continuous upgrades were made on the building structure to include a new fellowship hall that now honors Pastor McGee’s leadership and bears his name, The Clarence W. McGee Fellowship Hall. In 2014, Mt. Olive proudly honored Elder McGee on his 46th Pastoral Anniversary as the Church retired him and bestowed the honor of Pastor Emeritus upon him. Even in retirement, Elder McGee continued to worship at MO and reminded the Church to “Hold on!” Rev. McGee served faithfully in the Friendship United Primitive Baptist Association, supporting the Parent Body and all auxiliaries. For years, he was the Moderator of the Elders and Deacons Council and Vice Moderator of the Association. He stood firm on the principles and doctrine of the Primitive Baptist Church and proudly declared himself as a Primitive Baptist. Feldhaus Memorial Chapel is assisting the family with the arrangements.
