Mrs. Ethel L. Wilhoite, age 84, of Shelbyville, passed away Tuesday, September 1, 2015. Funeral services will be 1 PM Saturday, September 12, 2015, at Bright Temple Church of God In Christ. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to service Saturday at the church. Ethel Lee Wilhoite nee Bright was born to Clarence Garfield Bright and Lula Gertrude Bright in Decherd Tennessee on February 23rd, 1931. Her parents' blessed union produced 13 children in the following order: Ola (Cleveland), Charles, Mozella (Phillips), Henry, Clarence, Lydia Mae (Champion), Effie, Rebecca (Britton), Lawson, Ethel Lee (Wilhoite), and Betty Jean (Harris). One son perished at an early age. Ethel Lee married her husband Jesse Winfield Wilhoite in 1948. They had eight children. William Gregory Wilhoite (Demetra), Don Edward Wilhoite (deceased), Carolyn Marie Wilhoite Pryor (Sylvester), Sondra Yvonne Wilhoite Derrick ( Fred), Diane Wilhoite, David Michael Wilhoite, Terri Lynn Wilhoite, and Timothy James Wilhoite (Marcella). She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Jamie Derrick, David Taylor Wilhoite- Smith, Temia Wilhoite, Enoch Wilhoite, Edward Buckingham, Ebony Wilhoite , Shante Wilhoite, April Pryor, Amber Pryor, and Micah Posey. She has a multitude of much loved great – grandchildren, nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. Ethel Lee attended BCTS in Shelbyville Tennessee. She graduated with honors as Valedictorian of her class. She truly loved education and learning. After her last child started the first grade, she went back to school to further her education . She attended the Tennessee Technological Center and graduated there with honors . Over the years she was honored many times for her involvement in community services and for being a successful small business owner. Ethel Lee was secretary of the Tennessee Second Jurisdiction of COGIC. She was also the personal secretary to Bishop Audley King. She was known as a dutiful and fervent Prayer Warrior. She was also well-known for an easy ear to listen to your troubles . She loved to give advice to all that sought her counsel. She was much loved by everyone that ever met her. Many people chose to call her Mother. Her children did not mind sharing her at all. We too love all those that chose to adopt our mother. We will all remember her sweet smile and gentle countenance for the rest of our days. We can all take comfort in knowing that her heart was given to Christ at an early age and she was still worshiping Him until her very last breath. Feldhaus Memorial Chapel is assisting the family with the arrangements.
