Mrs. Evelyn McGrew

December 8, 1919 - September 2, 2017

Evelyn Taylor McGrew Evelyn Taylor McGrew, 97, died Saturday, September 2, surrounded by family at Carriage House Inn. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 6, at 11:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow at the McGrew Family Cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday at Feldhaus Memorial Chapel from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. There will be no visitation prior to the funeral service. Mrs. McGrew was born in Shelbyville to Robert and Kathleen (Limbo) Taylor. She was a graduate of Shelbyville Central High School. Right out of high school, she went to work for Hoover Trucking Company. For almost 15 years, she was employed by the Shelbyville-Bedford County Chamber of Commerce where she worked tirelessly to promote this community. However, it was her 20 years of substitute teaching at Central High School which she often told people brought her the greatest joy because of all the friends she made. Mrs. McGrew was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the Shelbyville Garden Club, the Shelbyville Woman’s Club, and the Bedford County Arts Council. She was the recipient of the 2012 Franklin Yates Lifetime Achievement Award and in 2015, the Celebration presented her with the Evan Lloyd Adamson Award. She enjoyed driving her convertible, playing bridge, and getting her picture in the Shelbyville Times-Gazette. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sydney C. (Bud) McGrew and her beloved son, Andy Rambo. She is survived by her daughter, Kate (Brent) Canady of Bell Buckle; three grandchildren, Andrea (Ben) Ross of Franklin, LTJG Andy (Noelle) Canady of Charleston, SC, and Benjie Canady, currently residing on Jeju Island, South Korea; and 3 great-grandsons, Jay, Drew, and Sean Ross of Franklin. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to The First Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund, The Fly Arts Center, or the Boy Scouts of America-Middle TN Council. Feldhaus Memorial Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
