Mrs. Helen Elizabeth Vaughn

May 9, 1927 - January 14, 2022

Mrs. Helen Vaughn, age 94, of Smyrna, passed away January 14, 2022. Funeral services 11 AM Friday, January 21, 2022, at Elders Chapel United Methodist Church in Smyrna, Tennessee. Burial to follow in Evergreen Cemetery in Murfreesboro. Helen Elizabeth Vaughn was born on May 9, 1927. She was the fifth child born to the late Henry and Queen Victoria Gregory of Smyrna, Tennessee. Helen was educated in the Rutherford County Schools. She was married to the late William M. Vaughn, Sr., and to this union six children were born. She was preceded in death by her oldest daughter Margaret (Peggy) (Robert Butler, Jr., deceased). She leaves to mourn William M. Vaughn, Jr. (Fannie, deceased) (Tina, deceased), Virginia Yeargins, Roland C. Vaughn (Catherine), Shelia (John Howse, Jr.), and Monica (James Butler, Jr.) To cherish her memories she leaves, 20 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren (two deceased great grandchildren), 7 great- great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Her children agree – that their mother was strict in their upbring. She was always there for them. Providing and giving them what they needed. Not only during their childhood years – she was also there for them in their adulthood years of life. If they needed anything, all they had to do was ask. If she, had it – she provided and gave freely! If she did not have it – she always said, “We will make it or we will find away”. Mother Helen was not a woman who gave up easily. She stood her course and fought till the end. Helen was a long-time member of Elder’s Chapel United Methodist Church, Smyrna, Tennessee. She used her talents and gifts as she was a member of the choir, United Methodist Women. and served in the capacity of church Financial Secretary/Treasurer until her death. Helen was a strong believer in God, family, and church. Even when her health failed, she continued in the giving of her tithes and offering. She continued to help in fund raising events – from her beside - to help in various functions and ministries of her church. She was always willing to serve whenever and however she could. In fulfilling her call, she formed and started a weekly Bible Study in her church. She was known to many as “Muh” or to others as "Con Helen”. It was a blessing to Helen seeing her grandchildren and great grandchildren coming to visit her during her last earthly days. They shared with her gifts of love and great joy! Her faithful songs were “The Lord Will Make Away Somehow” and “He Touched Me”. But, on her last three days of life she requested for the Hospice Nurse, to access the song “Nearer My God to Thee”. Feldhaus Memorial Chapel is assisting the family with the arrangements.
