Mr. James Glenn Helton, age 83, of Shelbyville, passed away Monday, February 9, 2015, after a lengthy battle with Parkinson’s disease. Funeral services will be 1 PM Thursday, February 12, 2015, at Feldhaus Memorial Chapel. Reverend Mark Hall will officiate. Burial, with full military honors, will follow in Smotherman Cemetery. The family will receive visitors 10:30 AM Thursday until service time. He was born November 4, 1931, in Bedford County, to the late John William and Virgie Lee Cook Helton. Mr. Helton served in the United Sates Army and was stationed in Korea and Hawaii. He worked at the State of Tennessee Vocational Technical School for nine years and was principal of Bedford County Vocational School for twenty two years. He liked to play golf, go fishing and play cars. His greatest passion was reading the Bible. He held membership in the Ransom Chapel United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife of 58+ years, June Helton; two sons, Mark Helton, of Shelbyville, and Michael (Jacqueline) Helton, of Franklin; two daughters, Sharon Simmons, of Memphis and Brenda Benson; a brother, Douglas (Sue) Helton, of Fosterville; two grandchildren, Jamie (Ashley) Burk, of Paragould, Arkansas, and Wyatt (Shelli) Burk, of Shelbyville; four great grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation, 1359 Broadway, Suite 1509, New York, NY 10018. Feldhaus Memorial Chapel is assisting the family with the arrangements.
