Mr. John King McCord

John King McCord, aged 93, of Shelbyville, passed away Wednesday, July 29, 2015, following a brief illness. He was a six-year resident of Carriage House. A Celebration of Life will be held at 3 PM Sunday, August 2, 2015, at Feldhaus Memorial Chapel, Shelbyville. He has donated his body to Vanderbilt University School of Medicine to be used for anatomical research. He was born February 20, 1922, in Lewisburg, Tennessee, to the late Marks Wright and Lula Bingham McCord. A graduate of Middle Tennessee State University, he was a veteran of the US Navy, serving on active duty during World War II and afterward in a reserve capacity to complete a full 20-year naval career. He taught history and coached football at Gallatin High School for two years and then entered the business world. First a manager for DuPont Chemical Co. in Chattanooga, he later joined his older brother’s company, Central School Supply, Inc., in Louisville, KY, in a position from which he ultimately retired. Preceding him in death were his son, Michael D. McCord, four brothers, and six sisters. Survivors include a daughter, Victoria McCord, of Shelbyville; one sister, Jean McCord Fast, of Triune; grandchildren, Jennifer Collins (Graham), of Ashland, OR, and Ward Ransom (Wendy) of Los Angeles; great-grandchildren, Alder Collins and Josey Collins of Ashland, OR. Memorials may be made to the Building Fund of the Shelbyville-Bedford County Library, 220 Jefferson St., Shelbyville, TN 37160. Feldhaus Memorial Chapel is assisting the family with the arrangements.
