James “Pat” Gore, age 76, of Shelbyville, passed away Wednesday, April 10, 2019, at his home, under the loving care and comfort of his family and Hospice Compassus. Graveside services will be 2:00 P.M. Sunday, April 14, 2019, at Hollywood Cemetery in Wartrace. Reverend Allen Cross will officiate. The family will receive visitors 3:00 – 6:00 P.M. Saturday, April 13, 2019, at the First Presbyterian Church in Shelbyville. He was born June 3, 1942, in Shelbyville, to the late Paul and Bessie Taylor Gore. Mr. Gore was the past president of the Bedford County Education Association and The Shelbyville Rotary Club. He became a Wartrace Alderman at the age of twenty-two, and later was a member of the Bedford County Commission, the Bedford County Hospital Board, Bedford County Democratic Party, the Old Stone Fort Archeological Society, and a deacon at Normandy Presbyterian Church and First Presbyterian Church of Shelbyville. Mr. Gore served the community as an educator for over 30 years and he was the past principal of Southside School. Mr. Gore was known for standing at the front door and greeting each student by name every morning. He was principal, a coach, and furnace man at Flat Creek School until it closed. Mr. Gore was “Mr. Fix It”, known for always leaving things in better shape than when he found them. He enjoyed raising peonies. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Robert Taylor Gore. He is survived by his wife, Mary Chase Gore, of Shelbyville; a son, Paul Chase (Peggy) Gore, of Clinton, Tennessee; a daughter, Alice (Jonathan) Grunau, of Nashville, Tennessee; three grandchildren: Daniel Gore, Max Grunau, and Elizabeth Grunau; and one great-grandchild, Rayden Gore. Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church Backpack Project or other missions of the church P.O. Box 699 Shelbyville, TN 37160. Feldhaus Memorial Chapel is assisting the family with the arrangements.
