Sarah Milholen Mason passed away peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, February 11, 2021 at her home in Bethesda, Maryland, at the age of 76. She was the only daughter of Anne Crawford Milholen and William Grady Milholen, born and raised in Shelbyville, Tennessee. She attended and graduated from Shelbyville Central High School, went on to the University of Tennessee, where she received a B.S. degree in mathematics in 1966. She was a member of Sigma Kappa Sorority. Her first job out of college was as a COBOL programmer. In 1967 she moved to the Washington, D.C. area and joined the IT section of the World Bank, where she held a series of positions, rising to become a project manager until she retired in 1999. For many years Sarah was an enthusiastic sailor on the Chesapeake Bay, the Atlantic seaboard and the Caribbean. She enjoyed traveling, visiting more than 30 countries in Europe, Central America, Australia and New Zealand, as well as much of the United States. She enjoyed tennis, bridge and her book club. Sarah was an active member of Saint Mark Presbyterian Church in Bethesda, Maryland, serving twice as an Elder. She was a member of the finance committee and the committee to build a new education, fellowship and administration building. She was a volunteer with Meals on Wheels. On November 12, 2016 she married Kenneth R. Mason, also a member of Saint Mark Presbyterian Church, they had known each other for about 30 years. They moved to Maplewood Park Place in September 2017. In addition to her husband Kenneth, she leaves 25 first cousins, her stepdaughter Denise Jeffries (Mike) and stepson Kenneth John Mason; Step granddaughters Anna and Abby Jeffries. A memorial service will be held at Saint Mark on a later date. A memorial service will also be held at First Presbyterian Church in Shelbyville, Tennessee, at a later date. A Memorial Service will be 2 PM Saturday, July 12, 2021, at First Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Sarah’s memory to your favorite charity.
