Mr. Scott Sanders Shapard

December 15, 1928 - June 13, 2019

Mr. Scott Sanders Shapard passed away Thursday, June 13, 2019, surrounded by his loved ones. Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m. Saturday, June 15, at Feldhaus Memorial Chapel. Reverend Ron Dewitt of Shelbyville First Church of the Nazarene will officiate. Memories will be shared by grandson, Mike Pitner. Burial will follow in Willow Mount Cemetery. The family will receive visitors 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. Friday, June 14, 2019, at the funeral home. Scott was born December 15, 1928, in Bedford County to the late Edwin and Bessie Gordon Shapard. He assisted his mother in the operation of his family farm after his father passed away. After a short time working in the lab at the U. S. Rubber Mill, Scott entered the insurance industry. In 1965, he joined Campbell and Gentry Real Estate beginning his career as a realtor and auctioneer. He later partnered with Shorty Campbell to begin Campbell and Shapard Realty and Auction. He eventually became sole owner of Scott Shapard Realty and Auction. Scott sold real estate for over 54 years and was a member of the Middle Tennessee Association Realtors Hall of Fame. He developed several residential subdivisions in Shelbyville and Bedford County during his career. He worked side by side with his wife, Betty, in the real estate office. Scott attended the Shelbyville First Church of the Nazarene. He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Betty Thomas Shapard and his sister, Emma Marie Eddleman. He is survived by two daughters, Mary S. Pitner (Allen) of Shelbyville and Peggy S. Stubblefield (Tim) of Tullahoma; grandchildren Megan Stubblefield Houck (Casey) of Lascassas, Michael Scott Pitner (Aleck) of Murfreesboro, Timothy Lee Stubblefield of Tullahoma, and Martha Amelia Pitner of Knoxville; two great-grandchildren, Henleigh and Hadlee Houck; nieces Pat Eddleman Hyland of Shelbyville and Emmye Eddleman Baker (Kerry) of Cullman, Alabama. The family would like to thank Barbara Jean Peoples as well as Scott’s friends at Carriage House Assisted Living for the wonderful care given to Scott over the last few years.
