Mrs. Wilene Sanders Bomar, age 87, of Shelbyville, passed away Tuesday, August 6, 2019, at her daughters’ home, under the care and comfort of her loving family. Funeral services will be 6 PM Thursday, August 8, 2019, at Feldhaus Memorial Chapel. Reverend Bobby McGee and John Carney will officiate. A private burial will be in Willow Mount Cemetery. The family will receive visitors 3 PM until service time Thursday at the funeral home. She was born August 17, 1931, in Shelbyville, to the late Levoy Bell McFarlin and Pauline Daniel McFarlin. She was the first recipient of the Franklin Yates Faithful Service Award, a longtime member and past president of the Shelbyville Woman’s Club. Along with her daughter, she was one of the first ten women inducted into the Rotary Club of Shelbyville. They were the first mother-daughter inducted on the same day. She was a Paul Harris Fellow. A faithful member of First United Methodist, she loved participating in the annual First United Methodist Church Bizarre, held the Friday before Thanksgiving. At the Shelbyville Times-Gazette, she began her career as a proof reader under the leadership and guidance of Publisher Franklin Yates. She retired as Associate Publisher after 54 years of service. She loved her Times- Gazette family. She held membership in the Volunteer Garden Club, Shelbyville Bedford County Chamber of Commerce, United Way and Good Samaritan Association, FCE Club, American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, and Bedford County Historical Society. She loved her animals and everyone else’s too. She loved to travel, spend time at the lake, or the beach, but mostly being with her family. A lover of cooking, she enjoyed baking for her family and friends. Some of her best times were spent with class members and spouses of the SCHS Class of 1949. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a step mother, Addie B. McFarlin, her husband Julius T. Sanders, after 52 years of marriage, and her husband Robert “Bob” Bomar; a brother, Wendell McFarlin and a sister, Janice McFarlin Allen Dillard. Survivors include her daughter, Pam Sanders Fisher, and her husband Phil; grandson, Brian L. Brasher, and his wife Tabitha; great grandchildren, Jesslyn Breeze Brasher, Nicolas Sanders Brasher, and Ruby Lynn Brasher; step grandchildren, Payne Fisher and Delaney Fisher; step great grandchildren Kayden Canady and Kamiah Canady; a brother, Jim Swing, of New York; several nieces and nephews, including Lori Allen Miller and Lisa Allen Stephens; special caregiver and close friend, Lydia Allen. Memorials may be made to Shelbyville Bedford County Humane Association or First United Methodist Church Soup Kitchen. Feldhaus Memorial Chapel is assisting the family.
