Mr. Charles Dejuan Mayes

Charles Dejuan Mayes, affectionately known as "Daddy", was called to his heavenly home Wednesday, October 5, 2022. Funeral services will be 2 PM Friday, October 14, 2022, at Canvas Community Church. Pastor John Perkins will be eulogist, with burial to follow in Willow Mount Cemetery. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to service Friday at the church. He was born Feb 9, 1990 to Brenda Mayes and Larry Armstrong in Shelbyville Tennessee. He graduated in from SCHS in 2008. Dejuan was a member of Vessels Unto Honour Ministry and accepted Christ on November 13, 2005. He had a sweet temperament and genuine spirit. He was the most unselfish person you could ever meet. He was smart, caring, sensitive, kind, real, compassionate, charming, easy-going, and quiet. He was a critical thinker and often gave words of encouragement to anyone in his presence. He was an artist by nature- often sketching people with them being unaware. He loved all kinds of music and sung on the daily. Dejuan was protective and totally devoted to his two daughters ("beautiful" is what he called them every day). They were the apple of his eye. He would go to the ends of the earth for them, literally! They were his entire reason for being. To know Dejuan, was to love him, and you without a doubt knew you were loved as well. He was loyal to a fault at times. "Daddy" loved his family wholeheartedly and loved spending time with them. He was a beloved father, son, brother, grandson, uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend. Dejuan was preceded in death by his brother Shawn Chunn in June 2022; his grandmother Ethel Abernathy Armstrong; and Aunt Mary Ingram. He is survived by his two daughters, Aleighana and Alayziah;his mother Brenda; father Larry Armstrong; sisters Marie Leslie, Diamond Duncan, Lashonda Moss and Sheena Love; brothers Larry "Dee" Armstrong, Shannon Armstrong, and Taj "TJ" Guinn; grandmother Mary Regynski; step father Melvin Berry; grandfather Reuben Starnes Sr; uncles Reuben and Mario Starnes, Paul Armstrong, and Sam Mayes ;aunts Renelda(Torrey)Burnley, Byonica Starnes, Romitchus Starnes, Evelyn Mitchell, Tammy Verge, Tia Stewart. Uncle Dejuan will absolutely be missed by Keviyanna, Kaydence,Kashton,Kohen, Jaylin, Xzavier and Makaylee. He will be missed beyond words by all his 1st cousins- who were just like siblings to him; his Uncle Sam; and his devoted friends Billy J Leslie and Michael Bailey Jr. Dejuan also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, great aunts and uncles, cousins, the Leslie family, friends and loved ones behind. No matter what you called him- Dejuan, Uncle, Son, Bruh, Daddy or Fat Daddy-He will be greatly missed and we will cherish each and every memory of him. Feldhaus Memorial Chapel is assisting the family with the arrangements.
