Martha Louise Martin Davis

Mrs. Martha Louise Martin Davis, age 90, of Shelbyville, passed away Sunday, July 21, 2013, at Christian Care Center of Bedford County. Funeral services will be 11 AM Wednesday, July 24, 2013, at Feldhaus Memorial Chapel. Reverend Dr. Lloyd Doyle and Reverend David Adams will officiate, with burial to follow in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 3-8 PM Tuesday at Feldhaus Memorial Chapel. She was born January 29, 1923, in Memphis, Tennessee, to the late Sam P. and Martha Louise Johnson Martin. Mrs. Davis held membership in Bedford County Farm Bureau Women for many years, serving as Chairperson in 1971. She was also a former board member for Bedford County Farm Bureau, and was a member and former secretary of Tennessee Flower Growers. Mrs. Davis was 4-H Volunteer Leader for many years and was Bedford County Open Dairy Show Secretary. She was former President and Secretary of Sulphur Springs Family and Community Education Club, member of Tennessee Holstein Association and South Central Association of Tennessee Holstein Breeders. Mrs. Davis was co-founder of M & L Greenhouse and a life long plant enthusiast and grower. She was a faithful member of First United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, A. Glover Davis, and a grandchild, Martha Ann Davis. Survivors include a daughter, Lorraine Sutton, and her husband James, three sons, Martin “Marty” Davis, and his wife Jo, Robert “Bob” Davis, and his wife Dulcie, and Richard Davis, and his wife Kim, all of Shelbyville; a sister, Mary Elizabeth “Betty” Martin Davis, and a brother in law, Fred T. Davis, Sr.; sister in law, Doris Davis Seigneur; eleven grandchildren, Eric Sutton, and his wife Julia, Samuel Davis, Chere Quick, and her husband Craig, Craig Davis, and his wife Kendra, Julie Davis-Forsee, Matt Hayes, and his wife Shanda, Danece Leverette, Josh Joyce-Davis, and his wife Sarah, Grant Davis, Rebecca Davis, and Joseph Davis; twelve great grandchildren, Alex Southon, Natalie Campbell, Taylar Quick, Kayla Forsee, Bryce Sutton, Collin Quick, Ashley Forsee, Meredith Hayes, Aniston Hayes, Austin Joyce-Davis, Amberlin Joyce-Davis, and Katlyn Leverette; two great great grandchildren, Maklane Brooks, and Mark Thomas Foster, III; numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and great nephews. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, Farm Bureau Agriculture in the Classroom Program, Argie Cooper Library, or the charity of your choice.
